SpES School Advisory Council Minutes

October 29, 2024 @ 1500

 

  1. Meeting opened with opening Remarks & Adoption of the Agenda (Assistant Principal, Leigh DeFazio).

      2. Introductions of potential members and guests.

       3. Presentation of the School Advisory Council Information Presentation by Assistant      Principal, Leigh DeFazio which covered role/purpose of SAC, elevating issues, what SAC can address, SAC successes, SAC composition, and procedures.

 

      4. Principal’s Report shared by Principal; Monika Kerner included:

     Total student enrollment: 544 

PSCD: 14

Pre-K: 71

Kindergarten :73

First grade: 83

Second grade: 68

Third Grade: 70

Fourth grade: 65

Fifth grade: 100

     Available Positions:

SPED Aide: 2 available and posted on USAJOBS

Incoming teachers include: PSCD, SLP, Pre-K, First Grade

      Upcoming Events: 

Book Fair: October 30-November 1

Parent-Teacher conferences: Oct. 31-Nov. 1

Student council Food drive: Oct. 28-Nov. 7

Stronger Together Game Night: Nov. 20

After school clubs: 

Chess, Fitness, Earth, Lego League, Student council, Crochet

 

       5. Spangdahlem Leadership Report (TBD)- Not Present

 

       6. School Liaison Report (Judy Mott, School Liaison Officer)

   Update on recent townhall: requests for the schools to offer parent/social media/ stress classes. She confirmed that a Parent University has been planned for November 13, 2024. DeFazio shared that we just held a curriculum night. ET confirmed social media/gaming safety is being taught by ET in Digital Citizenship lessons and parent information is in our school newsletter. Additional concerns regarding dismissal traffic was discussed. Admin. confirmed communication with Wing and improved conditions when SF is present. 

In Coordination with Frau Punsch, there is a planned field study with fourth grade and host nation schools. Host Nation Council is supplying bussing.

 

       7. Nominate and Elect Officers 

Nomination process explained and led by Ms. DeFazio. 

              a. President/Chairperson - Dr. Tiffany Labs self-nominated for                         President/Chairperson. 

              b. Vice President/Vice Chair: Ms. Jennifer Allen self-nominated for VP/Vice Chairperson.

              c. Secretary: Ms. Landers nominated for Secretary.

                      - All ran unopposed and named to position. 

       8. New Business (Leigh DeFazio)

Parent brought concern about Field Studies to admin. but was not present at meeting. Ms. DeFazio explained the process to parent. She further offered to help with planning/process for any team that wants assistance. Ms. DeFazio shared same process with SAC. Discussion involving the process and alignment with grade level standards ensued. 

      9. Open Session - no new topic was discussed but noted that we now have full committee based on nominations and attendance at this meeting. New Chairman (Dr. Labs) will attend IAC on November 4, 2024.

     10.Closing Remarks - no closing remarks. Next meeting scheduled for Tuesday December 17, 2024.
